Van Excellence receives top award

Tuesday 19 April 2016

The Freight Transport Association’s Van Excellence scheme today received a top award at the Fleet World Honours in London and was hailed “a beacon of professionalism” for the van industry.

Van Excellence was presented with the Editor’s Award, which was collected by Regional Manager of Vanfta Barrie Wilson at a ceremony at the RAC Club in Pall Mall. Unlike the other honours, the Editor’s Award is a personal choice given to a company, product or service that has made a major contribution to the LCV market in the UK.

Van Fleet World Editor Dan Gilkes said: “Vans have never been so noticeable, delivering to every household and business in the UK. Yet we continue to see overloading, failed MOTs and in the worst cases reckless driving and poor vehicle maintenance.

“FTA’s Van Excellence initiative is a beacon of professionalism for the van business. Serving a growing number of fleet customers and industry partners, Van Excellence delivers operational briefings and the publication of the annual Van Excellence report, to help fleet managers to achieve best practice in their business.

“It also promotes professionalism in drivers, through the FTA Van Excellence Driver CPC and the annual Van Excellence Driver of the Year competition. The work that the Van Excellence team puts in is benefitting all van operators, whether members or not, and that should be applauded.”

Barrie Wilson said: “We are delighted that Van Excellence has been recognised for setting high standards, sharing best practice and raising compliance levels across the sector. Van Excellence is striving to professionalise the industry and move away from the traditional ‘white van man’ image.”
