Finalists announced for LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award

Four leading logistics companies have been shortlisted for FTA’s LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award sponsored by Bridgestone.

There were difficult decisions to be made as the award judges deliberated over a variety of comprehensive applications which showcase how industry is committed to carbon reduction.
The four selected finalists are:

• Bibby Distribution
• Howden Joinery Group PLC
• Martin Brower UK and McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd
• UPS

Chairing the judging panel, FTA Chief Executive David Wells said: “The calibre of entries for the LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award has been outstanding this year, and I’m pleased to congratulate the four companies that have made it to the final shortlist. All entrants should be commended on the initiatives they are taking to reduce carbon emissions, from utilising alternative fuels and adopting sophisticated driver training programmes and telematics to making fundamental changes to their operations to improve efficiency.”

Rachael Dillon, FTA’s Climate Change Policy Manager, said: “There is increasing pressure for the freight industry to reduce carbon emissions. The LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award is a fantastic way to profile how fleet operators are striving to reduce their carbon impact despite the challenges and barriers that often exist.”

Managed by FTA, the LCRS was introduced in 2009 and is designed to recognise the efforts made by individual scheme members to reduce their carbon emissions from freight activity. The scheme demonstrates to Government how logistics is contributing to climate change targets without the need for regulation or additional taxation.

The overall winner will be announced at the FTA Multimodal Awards on 10 May, where the award will be presented by sponsors Bridgestone. Multimodal is the UK and Ireland’s leading freight transport and logistics exhibition which takes place at the NEC Birmingham on 10 and 11 May.

FTA is presenting a programme of workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions tackling important issues affecting the supply chain throughout the day on 11 May.
