No more stalling on South West infrastructure development, says FTA

Wednesday 03 July 2019

Reacting to the launch today (3 July 2019) of the Public Accounts Committee’s Inquiry Report into transport infrastructure in the South West, Chris Yarsley, FTA’s Policy Manager for the South West of England, commented:

“As the business organisation representing the logistics sector, FTA is calling on the government to urgently progress with its plans to improve transport infrastructure in the South West; this investment is needed to unlock economic and social growth in the region. The government must source and allocate the funding required to complete improvements through the entire A303 road corridor; the UK economy needs efficient and effective road transport networks to function effectively and this corridor is a blight to the logistics sector. Many government politicians have promised to supercharge the economy post-Brexit by investing in infrastructure: this scheme presents the perfect opportunity to boost regional economic growth, while also delivering social benefits in terms of heritage and tourism.”

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods.  With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
