FTA strongly welcomes Transport for London’s (TfL) decision to increase its financial support for businesses needing to replace their current vans and HGVs with newer, cleaner models in preparation for the tightening of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) standards later this year.
FTA has said that the new target to ban petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles by 2035 is not only extremely ambitious, it is also unlikely to be achieved unless the government takes urgent action.
FTA is relieved the government has provided clarity on HS2, but logistics businesses now need a guarantee it will use the high-speed rail line to free up space for rail freight services on existing lines. The business group is also calling on the government to commit to a nationwide programme of upgrades to the rail network; HS2 will not solve capacity issues in other regions.
