Changes to operator licensing brings some vans into scope

From 2 February 2022, new rules as part of the EU Mobility Package will bring vans over 2.5 tonnes that cross international borders performing hire or reward into operator licensing, although the precise scope of the changes has not yet been finalised.

As reported in Logistics Magazine last week, the Department for Transport has asked Logistics UK to survey its van-operating members on the potential impact of this.

Results from this survey will be used to help inform the government’s decision making when it comes to implementing the final version of the EU’s Mobility Package on 2 February 2022. It is important, therefore, that decision makers understand how this will affect van members and their businesses. The survey, which should only take five minutes to complete, will help members get their views heard before the measures are implemented.
