FTA Safety in Logistics speaker to focus on drivers using hands-free phones
Friday 30 September 2016
The 2016 Freight Transport Association (FTA) Safety in Logistics Conference will include a thought-provoking presentation on the impact of making a phone call - hands-free, when driving.
Talking from personal experience, Elaine Corner will outline the importance of road safety and explain how distractions when you’re behind the wheel can change a person’s life. “The message I really want to get across is that you need to be concentrating fully when driving. Using a mobile phone hands-free may not be illegal but it is still a distraction,” says Elaine. “It’s not about the law, or breaking the law – it’s about saving people’s lives.”
The FTA Safety in Logistics Conference sponsored by Brigade Electronics, Volvo Trucks and Lytx DriveCam, is aimed at equipping managers responsible for health and safety within transport and logistics operations with the latest information. The event will update them on the latest key industry initiatives, provide best practice advice and enforcement focus areas, and highlight the importance of leadership in transport safety.
The keynote address at the event will be by Bruno Porter of the Health and Safety Executive on HSE’s strategy ‘Helping Great Britain Work Well’, explaining how all can act together to manage risk.
Other key sessions are to include:
• Technology and data – the use of CCTV – a case study
• Manual handling - how is Olympic weightlifting improving health and wellbeing across industry?
• Enforcement of load security by the Driver and Vehicle Services Agency
• Making the most of vehicle safety systems
• New sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter and H&S offences
• Leading transport safety at work
