FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service strikes gold

Tuesday 27 September 2016

The Freight Transport Association is showcasing the work of its dedicated Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) team as it marks its golden anniversary.

Part of the 50th celebrations are being held at an industry event at Volvo, Warwick and Warwick Castle today, where FTA’s team of engineers and administration staff will reflect on how VIS has become recognised as an essential service to freight transport.

When launched in 1966 VIS had just five engineers, but now boasts a national team of 90 which carries out over 11 services – including 66,000 vehicle inspections, training courses, IRTEC registrations, PSV, van and DEFRA inspections.

Congratulating the team on its achievements, June Powell – FTA's Director of Operations said: “I am delighted to be celebrating this fantastic achievement and to have the opportunity to recognise the contribution our multi-skilled and highly professional team provides to industry.”

VIS has grown rapidly over the years to meet demands from industry. Initially the service only inspected lorries, but over time has expanded to include trailers, buses, fork lift trucks, lorry mounted cranes and company cars.
FTA VIS offers a range of solutions to ensure vehicles, related equipment and maintenance arrangements are safe, efficient and legally compliant.

The enormous contribution VIS has made to the freight and logistics industry has been recognised over the years, receiving a prestigious Motor Transport Award and a Prince Michael Road Safety Award.
