FTA says business in south Wales needs urgent action on M4
Wednesday 22 June 2016
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is calling for a quick decision and finally some action following the announcement of a Public Inquiry on all aspects of the M4 proposals around Newport in south Wales.
FTA Head of Policy for Wales Ian Gallagher said: “While understandable, this inquiry will add further delay to what is part of an internationally important section of the European road network. After all these years debating, businesses in south Wales need to see some light at the end of the tunnel and for work to actually start - whatever the final route decision.”
FTA has participated and responded to many consultations over the years, and supports the Government proposals for the ‘Black Route’.
Mr. Gallagher added: “FTA has already contacted the Welsh Government with the message that a quick decision based on the national importance of the route is vital. The M4 provides an important lifeline to businesses across south Wales and should not be considered solely as a local issue.”
