Don’t get in a jam this Easter – be prepared for hold-ups and congestion says FTA

Thursday 24 March 2016

With an unprecedented number of vehicles expected to take to the roads during the holiday weekend, the Freight Transport Association has welcomed the removal of over 450 miles of roadworks so its members can carry on making essential journeys and deliveries.

Highways England said it aimed to complete or lift 208 sets of roadworks by 6am this morning – leaving more than 97 per cent of its 9,534-mile network free of roadworks in time for the holidays. That means 97 per cent of major A-roads and motorways will have no roadworks and major works are to be removed from the M25, M6, M40, M62 and M20.

But that won’t help ease all the delays this weekend – and FTA says keeping routes free-running all year round is vital to the UK’s logistics industry. The Association is advising fleet operators to be prepared for hold-ups and congestion and to plan their journeys accordingly.

The FTA website has a dedicated section for all traffic and weather alerts, which can be found at: http://www.fta.co.uk/policy_and_compliance/road/road_network/traffic_weather_alerts.html

If breakdowns occur, it’s vital to have assistance like FTA Recovery - a ‘pay as you go’ service for FTA members, provided by the AA. FTA members can register with FTA Recovery free of charge and it costs nothing unless they need to use the service. Even then, with FTA Recovery there is a reduced tariff on all services. Whether it’s due to mis-fuelling, breakdown or collision, FTA Recovery can get you going on your way again.
