LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award – deadline extended

Monday 07 March 2016

Due to unprecedented interest, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) has extended the deadline by one week for the LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award sponsored by Bridgestone.

The award aims to recognise companies that are making carbon reduction and fuel efficiency a priority within their fleet operation. FTA is encouraging LCRS members who are adopting operational and technological measures from driver training and route scheduling to improving vehicle fill and using greener fuels to apply and receive recognition for their efforts.

Rachael Dillon, FTA’s Climate Change Policy Manager said: “There is increasing pressure for the freight industry to reduce carbon emissions. The LCRS Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award is a fantastic way to profile how fleet operators are striving to reduce their carbon impact despite the challenges and barriers that often exist. It is also an opportunity for companies, whatever their size, to promote their green credentials to customers, stakeholders and competitors.”

Managed by FTA, the LCRS was introduced in 2009 and is designed to recognise the efforts made by individual scheme members to reduce their carbon emissions from freight activity. The scheme demonstrates to Government how logistics is contributing to climate change targets without the need for regulation or additional taxation.

Entries to the 2016 LCRS Award will be judged by industry experts:

David Wells, FTA Chief Executive
John Parkinson, Director of Motoring, Freight and London Directorate at the Department for Transport
Andy Mathias, TBR Product & Marketing Manager, Bridgestone
Maja Piecyk, Reader in Logistics, University of Westminster
Entry is free of charge and companies wishing to apply should complete an application form available to download at www.fta.co.uk/lcrs. Companies are asked to list the top five actions they are undertaking to reduce freight carbon emissions.

The award will be presented at the FTA Multimodal Awards on 10 May. Multimodal is the UK and Ireland’s leading freight transport and logistics exhibition which takes place at the NEC Birmingham on 10 and 11 May.
FTA is presenting a programme of workshops, masterclasses and panel discussions tackling important issues affecting the supply chain throughout the day on 11 May.

Full details on the LCRS and the Award is available at www.fta.co.uk/lcrs. The new closing date for entries is 5pm on Friday 18 March 2016.
