Logistics UK statement on the expansion of the ULEZ scrappage scheme
Thursday 01 June 2023
Speaking following the Mayoral announcement today (1 June 2023), Michelle Gardner, Logistics UK’s Deputy Policy Director said:
“Today’s announcement of the expansion of the ULEZ scrappage scheme to include all small businesses across London will be welcome news for logistics businesses working to serve the needs of the capital’s economy. Logistics UK and its members support the Mayor’s commitment to improving the quality of the air we breathe, but have been concerned about the cost of switching to compliant vehicles at a time of high inflation. Logistics businesses deliver everything London’s workers and residents need every day, and today’s news will provide reassurance that they can seek additional support to replace non-compliant vehicles."
Logistics UK is one of the UK’s leading business groups, representing logistics businesses which are vital to keeping the UK trading, and more than seven million people directly employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With decarbonisation, Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. Logistics UK supports, shapes and stands up for safe and efficient logistics, and is the only business group which represents the whole industry, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.
