Transport Manager 2023 kicks off in Yeovil

Today sees the opening salvo of Logistics UK’s popular annual Transport Manager conference series, with the first event held at the Haynes Motor Museum in Yeovil.

With attendance counting towards your CPD requirements, a packed programme and great peer networking opportunities, there are plenty of reasons for you to join us at a Transport Manager conference near you, or to join the online version of the event which will be held later in the year.

“Any business using HGVs or vans in its daily work needs to make sure its transport managers are up to speed with the latest rules and regulations governing their use – and there’s no better way to do that than by attending one of our Transport Manager conferences,” says David Wells, Chief Executive at Logistics UK.

“In 2023 we’ll be travelling to 10 different locations across the UK, from Yeovil and Manchester to Belfast and Glasgow, to give delegates the chance to hear from their local Traffic Commissioner as well as enjoying in-depth presentations from a panel of hand-picked expert speakers.

“Every year we strive to make sure the programme covers all the areas that concern transport managers, providing you with the latest information and guidance on industry legislation to help manage the safety and compliance of your operation as well as providing excellent networking opportunities with your industry peers.

“The fact Transport Manager is now entering its 23rd year is testament to how well received it has been over the years and how the programme constantly evolves to serve our industry in the best way possible.

“I look forward to many more years developing the logistics industry’s most popular event.”

New freight interchange connects to West Coast main line

Rail passengers have been thanked for their patience after nine days of major work to connect a new rail--to-road freight interchange with the West Coast main line was completed in Northampton.

New track, points and signalling systems were installed to connect the existing railway to the new sidings at the under-construction freight facility at SEGRO logistics park.

Once complete, the facility will provide five million square feet of warehouse space, employ up to 7,000 people and be used by freight company Maritime to transport thousands of tonnes of goods between rail and road every day.

Four freight trains – each taking up to 76 heavy goods vehicles off the road every day – will serve the new Northampton interchange each day, with the capacity for more in the future.

"Connecting this new freight interchange to the main line railway network is a huge milestone and shows our commitment to working with freight operators to move more goods in the most environmentally friendly way possible – by rail,” said James Dean, Network Rail's West Coast South route director.

The latest winners of the Zero Emission Vessel and Infrastructure fund will also receive £80m to help showcase the benefits maritime technology can bring to communities from Orkney to Portsmouth.
