Logistics UK updates essential compliance training for suppliers of light commercial vehicles

Light commercial vehicle (LCV) operations are subject to several compliance and legislative requirements, with rules governing vehicle defect reporting, load security, speed limits and over loading – to name a few – and further tightening of the rules on the horizon.

To help sales and leasing professionals understand this complex landscape and guide their customers to the right LCV for their needs, Logistics UK offers a one-day training course, Van Excellence – Industry Supplier training, which can now be delivered in-company either face to face or online.

Will Reeves, Sector Development Manager at Logistics UK said: ‘By carrying out the Van Excellence – Industry Supplier training, sales and leasing professionals of LCVs will be confident that they can have complex discussions with customers relating to aspects that affect van operations such as towing, driver licensing, drivers’ hours and operator licensing. The course will empower sales professionals to understand what customers need to know and to be able to offer valuable compliance advice ensuring the right vehicle is sold for the right job.”

This one-day, in-company course is based on the good practice guidelines detailed in Logistics UK’s Van Excellence Code, and covers a variety of compliance topics including:

  •  Vehicle/body types
  •  Definition of terms
  •  Driver licensing
  •  Vehicle standards and administration
  •  Vehicle maintenance
  •  Securing the load, method of restraint and overloading
  •  Speed limits
  •  Towing equipment and digital tachographs
  •  Operator licensing
  •  Passenger carrying vans

The course is being adapted to include the new rules for the EU Mobility Package affecting vans over 2.5 tonnes from May 2022 crossing international borders for hire and reward. Logistics UK is also working with a leading LCV manufacturer to develop an online version of the course.
