In just ten short years, driverless vehicles will be a familiar sight on Britain’s roads, according to Dr Daniel Ruiz, the man at the helm of Zenzic, a future-focused organisation created by government and industry to accelerate the self-driving revolution in the UK.
When it comes to supply chain management, sustainability and profitability are no longer mutually exclusive concepts. While logistics remains a low-margin industry, the bottom line no longer has to be sacrificed to implement financially crippling environmental policies. FTA has recently launched a brand-new supply chain consultancy service. Three industry experts – Martin Palmer, Eddy de Jong and Paul Wilson – will deliver the new service, which will complement FTA’s existing in-house consultancy service.
Born into a family haulage business, John Lucy can claim to have spent his whole life in the logistics industry. He spent the early part of his career building up an international transport business, before deciding to close it 20 years ago. Since then he has held various management roles within the industry. In 2018 he joined FTA as Manager – International Trade and Transport Procedures, supporting and informing members that buy or operate international road freight services.
FTA’s modal councils – road, air, water and rail – follow the 13 regional Freight Councils that take place quarterly across the UK. While the regional Freight Councils often share a largely common agenda, they also offer the opportunity to discuss local issues that are important to FTA members. These feed into the modal councils, which are the democratic bodies of FTA that determine FTA’s policy position.
