Using telematics to improve driver training sucess

The challenges of driving goods vehicles and PCVs have always called for a very much higher level of skill than most car drivers possess, and as the challenges of congestion, closed roads, lorry bans and vulnerable road users all increase, the need for continual awareness becomes paramount.

The key to maintaining standards lies in spotting traits that could turn into habits that risk the driver’s safety and those of other road users. Putting an observer or instructor in the cab, while effective, is also expensive, so a new way to keep track on driver traits is by monitoring the data from telematics systems.

As Keith Gray will explain using data intelligently allows training organisations to monitor drivers’ day-to-day behaviours and spot these traits early, before they become a habit. This allows a low-intrusion approach, while helping to maintain safety through skill
