Gordon Macdonald, Head of Enforcement Policy, DVSA
Gordon has been involved in commercial vehicle enforcement for the last 30 years, having begun his Civil Service career in the Scottish Traffic Area Office’s enforcement office in 1985. In 1991 his enforcement experience was extended further when he became a Traffic Examiner within the Vehicle Inspectorate. Following this, he spent six years as a Senior Traffic Examiner managing a team of Traffic Examiners and Bus Compliance Officers covering Fife, Central and Lothian & Borders.
In 2004 Gordon moved across to VOSA’s HQ based Policy Unit, managing the organisation’s ANPR and ANPR/WIMS Project. This project introduced a radical new approach to targeting overloaded vehicles, instantaneously comparing live weights to technical data.
He became an Enforcement Policy Manager in 2006, before becoming Head of Enforcement Policy at the start of 2013.
In addition to his DVSA role, Gordon is also President of Brussels based CORTE (Confederation of Organisations in Road Transport Enforcement).
