The government has reassured industry that the UK benefits from a strong and diverse supply of fuel, confirming that production, imports and national supply remain stable with no evidence of disruption. It has also said contingency planning in this area is well established, with a range of measures it can use in the unlikely event that normal supply chains become disrupted.

Ben Fletcher, Chief Executive at Logistics UK said: “Logistics is a sector that already operates on narrow margins and cost pressures inevitably lead to higher prices for consumers.

“We’re urging the Chancellor to focus on bolstering business confidence and supply chain resilience, which includes reviewing the decision to begin increasing fuel duty from September 2026.

“This will help prevent further inflationary pressures at a time when the global economy is significantly disrupted.”
