THRIVE

THRIVE is a resource designed primarily for our members and the wider industry, providing access to a wide range of materials, articles and practical tools that can be shared and distributed across their teams.

YEAR 2 IS COMING SOON!

Introducing Thrive

THRIVE is an online hub created to give the logistics industry easy access to a trusted library of resources dedicated to mental health and wellbeing. While we don’t claim to be experts in the field of wellbeing our mission is to guide individuals towards the right support when they need it most. We have built a network of specialist partners who will share their expertise and contribute valuable content to help improve wellbeing across the industry. This year and for 2026, THRIVE is proud to support CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). Together, we’re working to make it easier for everyone in logistics to access the help, tools, and information they need to thrive, both in and beyond the workplace.

Why?

Awareness of mental health and wellbeing within the logistics industry is steadily increasing.

In fact, the very first chapter of our HGV Drivers’ Handbook now focuses on this important topic.

Traffic Commissioners are also beginning to consider mental health as a mitigating factor in their cases, and our MAC team is receiving an increasing number of calls related to wellbeing.

Our Contributors

Campaign Against Living Miserably

One in four of us will have suicidal thoughts in our life. CALM’s vision is that no one feels like suicide is their only option. But right now, too many people are struggling to see a way forward.

Every day in the UK we lose 18 people to suicide. This isn’t just a stat on a page. These are our mums and dads, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, partners and friends. That’s why we’re here to help anyone struggling with life – and provide everyone with the skills to help prevent suicide.

I offer a wide range of solutions to help you reach your goals. Delivering a personal service, you can enjoy a private space to train in with an extensive range of equipment to ensure you improve with every session. Free from the judgement and stresses of most commercial gyms.

I am a level 3 Personal Trainer as well as holding a degree in Sports & Exercise Science.

Liam Swain

I’m an experienced Physiotherapist and the founder of LRS Physiotherapy, a clinic specialising in musculoskeletal and sports injury rehabilitation.

I graduated from the University of Brighton with a First-Class Honours degree and have since gained valuable experience working within the NHS, private medical hospitals, and now in my own practice.

I have a real passion for helping people improve their function, reduce pain, and get back to doing what they love. For me, physiotherapy isn’t just about getting someone pain-free- it’s about enhancing every aspect of their health and fitness to help them move better, feel stronger, and perform at their best.

I take pride in providing a personal, supportive approach that empowers people to reach their full potential, whether they’re everyday movers or dedicated athletes.

Night Club

Shift and night workers are the backbone of many industries – yet their unique challenges are often overlooked.

For the 8.7 million people in the UK working at the impact on health, relationships and overall wellbeing can be significant. Sleep disruption costs the UK economy £50bn per year in lost productivity and health costs.

Night Club was founded in 2018 to help night time workers thrive. We deliver award-winning training experiences to individuals plus management and leadership support for employers. Our programme was developed in partnership with the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute at the University of Oxford and night workers themselves, and we have supported over 40 employers and over 13,000 workers to date.

Motorway Buddy

Motorway Buddy is a purpose built platform created by logistics and technical experts to address the real world challenges faced on the road every day. The system provides live compliance management, safety checks, and incident reporting, all linked directly to a haulage company’s web portal for instant oversight.

By combining driver insights, secure parking data, freight crime alerts, and operational tools, Motorway Buddy empowers drivers to stay safe and informed, helps hauliers manage fleets efficiently, and supports the industry in identifying trends and improving conditions across the network. It is a practical, all in one solution that ensures everyone from drivers to fleet managers benefits from safer, smarter, and more connected operations.

SHIFT

Led a team of researchers from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS) and the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) to develop the Structured Health Intervention For Truckers (SHIFT) programme.

The SHIFT programme aims to address health inequalities within HGV drivers, by targeting a group that often faces barriers to accessing healthcare and wellness programmes, addressing the challenges they face within the constraints of their occupation to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours.

The programme is scalable for adoption across a wide range of transport and logistics professions. For further details on the programme, please contact the lead researcher: Prof Stacy Clemes – [email protected]

Reset and Rebalance: Work Issues

Whether you’re feeling overloaded, or have recently become unemployed, work, or a lack of it, can be a common source of worry for many of us.

Work stress can affect our mental and physical well-being, but talking about your feelings can help you to move forward.

A Guide to Depression

Feeling down or out of sorts every now and again is totally normal, but if you’re feeling unhappy or intensely sad for days, weeks or months, you might be experiencing depression.

If you’re struggling with symptoms of depression it’s important to get help.

A Guide to Loneliness

Loneliness isn’t about how many friends you have or who laughs at your jokes. You can be surrounded by friends and family and still feel lonely. Humans need social connection.

Studies have shown that without it, we can even suffer from mental and physical illness. Loneliness is our bodies’ natural response to a lack of human connection – a warning sign to let us know we need contact, just like hunger tells us we need food.

Bright Nights

Bright Night Employer Guide Night workers are the backbone of the UK’s 24/7 economy – but they’re often exhausted, under-supported and left out of the conversation. Night Club’s new employer guide, Bright Nights, is here to help change that.

How to: Make Mates

Making new mates as an adult can be intimidating. It’s no longer as simple as sharing a bag of wotsits at lunchtime or giving someone a friendship bracelet to let them know you’re bffs.

The fear of rejection when trying to make mates as an adult hits different, but that doesn’t mean you can’t kindle new friendships (or share a bag of wotsits with someone you like). Here’s some stuff to get you started.

Introduction to The Structured Health Intervention For Truckers (SHIFT)

The UK logistics sector makes a major and vital contribution to the UK economy, employing approximately 300,000 heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers.

Due to the nature of their occupation, HGV drivers are exposed to many health-related risk factors, including high volumes of sitting, limited opportunities for physical activity, and poor dietary options. Long, variable working hours, including shift work, contributes to sleep deprivation and metabolic disturbances, further promoting uptake of unhealthy behaviours.

Reset and Rebalance: How to Fix Your Circadian Rhythm

If you struggle to fall asleep or stay awake at the times that you’d like, you might wonder if your circadian rhythm is thrown off. Over each 24-hour period, your circadian rhythms direct when you feel tired or alert, when certain hormones are released, what your body temperature is, and when you feel hungry. People looking to change their sleep schedules ultimately want to alter their circadian rhythms.

10 Stress Busters

If you’re stressed, whether by your job or something more personal, the first step to feeling better is to identify the cause.

The most unhelpful thing you can do is turn to something unhealthy to help you cope, such as smoking or drinking.

Not taking control of the situation and doing nothing can make your problems worse.

Some of the keys to good stress management are building emotional strength, being in control of your situation, having a good social network, and adopting a positive outlook.

Eating Well: A guide by the NHS

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health, and can help you feel your best.

Physical activity guidelines for adults aged 19 to 64

Adults should do some type of physical activity every day. Exercise just once or twice a week can reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke.

Speak to your GP first if you have not exercised for some time, or if you have medical conditions or concerns. Make sure your activity and its intensity are appropriate for your fitness.
