Logistics UK’s Chief Executive quoted in King’s Speech briefing document

The speech announced the European Partnership Bill, which will reset trade relations in the EU by addressing SPS and emissions trading, as well as enabling powers to be extended to new treaties with the EU in the future.

It is a welcome sign that the UK government is listening to the logistics sector in making UK-EU trade simpler, cutting red tape and reducing costs for logistics businesses.

Mr Fletcher said: “The King’s Speech sets out a welcome focus on growth, resilience and long-term competitiveness. For logistics, there are positive signs that the role our industry plays in achieving growth is being better appreciated, but the priority now is delivery.

“Trade is central to growth, and the European Partnership Bill is an important step forward. Logistics businesses underpin every UK-EU movement of goods and proposals to ease processes in areas such as agri-food checks and emissions trading are practical and welcome.

“Further progress, particularly on customs alignment, will be needed to ensure goods move as smoothly and predictably as possible with our largest trading partner.”
