Road freight decarbonisation roadmap to net zero

The project seeks to analyse where the sector stands currently, looking at current greenhouse gas emissions from vans and HGVs, trajectory projections and taking into consideration scaling up and making commercially viable zero emission tailpipe technologies.

The report will be evidence based, shaped by industry experiences, perceptions, and progress, and will cover priorities to enable the transition, including supporting SMEs, grid infrastructure readiness and scaling low carbon fuels before assessing the role of policy, regulation and initiatives and outlining recommendations on what is needed for industry to meet net zero targets.

We are therefore seeking member support to gain insights to ensure member views are represented.

Focus groups on SME needs

As part of this work, Logistics UK is particularly looking at understanding the journeys of SMEs (those with fewer than 250 employees) in the transition. SMEs make up 99.7% of the sector and yet can be least supported. Logistics UK is therefore hosting focus groups to discuss SME experiences around decarbonisation. The groups will discuss vehicle types in fleets, the biggest barriers, experiences with electric vehicles and adopting low carbon fuels, as well as government support. The sessions will take place online at the following dates and times:

•    Tuesday 16 September, 10:00 -11:00

•    Monday 22 September, 15:00-16:00

Understanding member views is critical to informing this decarbonisation roadmap and Logistics UK would like to invite members to engage on this vital opportunity.

Decarbonisation Roadmap member survey launches soon

As part of the research, on 1 September, Logistics UK will also be launching a survey for all members to complete and will be conducting interviews to gain a deeper understanding.
