New border requirements coming for British nationals

The specific start date of EES is still to be confirmed by the EU.  

The new digital border system will change requirements for British nationals travelling to the Schengen area and require them to register biometric details, such as fingerprints or a photo. EES registration will replace the current system of manually stamping passports when visitors arrive in the EU.  

Logistics UK is calling for the government to work closely with the EU on border and trade policies to find pragmatic solutions to assist the smooth flow of trade, particularly at peak passenger periods, at the juxtaposed border areas – at Eurotunnel and the Port of Dover.  

Nichola Mallon, Logistics UK's Head of Trade and Devolved Policy said: “Logistics businesses welcome confirmation of the October timeline for the introduction of the EES but there is still much to be done to inform and educate the public about what is involved.  

“Any delay at the UK’s juxtaposed borders at the Short Straits slows the passage of goods and we need governments on both sides of the Channel to work together to minimise this friction.”
