Member notice: M4 and M48 closures
- The M4 will be closed westbound between J21 & J23 from 00:00 to 03:00 on 2 October
- The M48 will be closed westbound between the J1 off and on slip from 23:00 1 October to 04:00 2 October
- This means all vehicles will need to exit the mainline at J1 westbound before rejoining at the J1 on slip (visually this will look like the high winds off and on closure)
- Temporary traffic lights will be in place at M48 J1 to ensure that the number of HGVs on the structure does not exceed its tolerance. Data suggests that these traffic lights will remain green for the majority of the trial allowing for free flow on the slip road but if levels reach the threshold then operatives on site will hold traffic on a red light until the numbers are tolerable again.
- All signage in relation to the weight restriction will be removed and during this period freight can use the structure.
Upon completion of the closures, all arrangements will return to the current situation with goods vehicles over 7.5t required to use the M4 PoWB.
