Member notice: Freight crime round table

Earlier this year, Rachel Taylor MP introduced the Freight Crime Bill under the Ten-Minute Rule procedure. The Bill aligns with key policy asks from Logistics UK, including the introduction of a specific crime code for freight offences, recognition of the organised nature of freight crime, and call for improvements in tracking, reporting, and prosecution. The Bill is scheduled for its second reading on 12 September 2025.

Maddi Solloway-Price, Head of Road Freight and English Regions Policy at Logistics UK, commented, "Freight crime is a serious and escalating issue. In the past year alone, goods worth over £111 million have been stolen from vehicles. These crimes are not isolated incidents, instead they are often carried out by highly organised criminal gangs that target valuable goods in transit.

"Freight crime is not only an economic issue, but also a workforce welfare and infrastructure challenge. Addressing it requires a coordinated approach that includes legislative reform, infrastructure investment, and a renewed focus on the health and safety of the logistics workforce.

"We’re delighted that our members will have the opportunity to have their say and hear directly from Rachel Taylor MP ahead of the Bill’s second reading, and from Mike Dawber, who will provide expert insights into the scale and nature of the issue."
