Logistics UK’s new CEO meets with Road Minister Simon Lightwood

Logistics UK was delighted to meet with Roads Minister Simon Lightwood MP to discuss the priorities of the logistics sector and the central role logistics plays in supporting economic growth.

Logistics UK’s Chief Executive, Ben Fletcher, welcomed the government’s investment in the Lower Thames Crossing and the increased focus on understanding the needs of the freight sector when making infrastructure decisions.

The conversation also looked at the need to reform outdated regulations that are holding back both logistics efficiency and decarbonisation, alongside road freight’s skills challenges – with reforming the Apprenticeship Levy and increasing driver testing capacity both vital.

Mr Fletcher also highlighted the logistics sector’s engagement with the development of autonomous vehicles, and the importance of avoiding fragmented rules and regulations across the country for new and emerging logistics solutions.

The association looks forward to continuing to engage with Minister Lightwood on these issues.
