Logistics leaders awarded OBEs in New Year Honours list

Chris Lewis and Richard Turfitt have both been awarded OBEs in the New Year Honours list.

Two influential figures in the logistics and transportation sector have been awarded OBEs in the King’s New Year Honours: Chris Lewis, Deputy Chairman of Maritime Transport, and Richard Turfitt, Traffic Commissioner for the East of England (previously Senior Traffic Commissioner between June 2017 and May 2025).

Lewis’ current role at Maritime draws on his four decades of experience working at UK ports, having previously held roles at the Port of Felixstowe, DP World Southampton, and DP World London Gateway, strengthening the UK’s ability to support global trade.

Upon receiving the honour, Lewis said: “I am very honoured to receive this award for a career in an industry that plays such a vital role in supporting the UK economy. I have been fortunate to work with many talented people over the years, whose dedication and expertise have been fundamental to the sector’s success, and I see this recognition as reflecting their contribution as much as my own.”

Turfitt’s tenure as Senior Traffic Commissioner saw the development and implementation of robust statutory guidance and directions. He also provided leadership during Brexit and COVID-19.

Kevin Rooney, Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain, said “Richard’s contribution goes far beyond the milestones listed here. He has always brought a calm authority and a deep sense of fairness to every decision, earning the trust of colleagues, operators and stakeholders alike. His ability to balance the needs of industry with the requirements of public safety has set a benchmark for all who follow him.

“Richard’s integrity, vision and commitment to justice have left a legacy within the Traffic Commissioner service and the wider road transport sector. We are proud to see his dedication recognised with this honour.”

Logistics UK would like to congratulate both Mr Lewis and Mr Turfitt for their well-deserved accolades and hard work and looks forward to working with both in the future.
