Employment Rights Act becomes law
The Employment Rights Bill was given Royal Assent on 18 December.
The Employment Rights Bill was given Royal Assent on 18 December. The Act introduces measures including strengthened protections against unfair dismissal, changes to flexible working arrangements, and new requirements around worker consultation and enforcement.
Logistics UK has engaged closely with government throughout the Bill’s passage to highlight the need for clarity and proportionality. A key amendment made during the passage of the Bill was the inclusion of a six-month qualifying period for unfair dismissal, rather than this being a day one right.
We will continue to engage on the secondary legislation required to enact many of the Bill’s clauses, such as on guaranteed-hours contracts, seasonal and temporary workers, thresholds for industrial action, and the practical application of union rules.
