FTA sponsors MT Operational & Compliance Award 2016

Entries for the 30th Motor Transport Awards are now open, and this year the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is sponsoring the Operational and Compliance Excellence Award.

Those who work in the operations department are often the unsung heroes of a freight organisation, containing the key people who make the logistics world work. They have to juggle the need for the business to make a profit, the demands of customers for high service levels and the absolute requirement to run legally at all times.

Judges will be looking for an outstanding operations department that is able to balance the key aspects of the job and goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the profit table, safe, legal and efficient running of their fleet. This award is open to third party or own account operators running 11 or more commercial vehicles.

Entries will be judged by a panel of leading industry figures with years of experience in road transport, who will be looking for entries that ‘grab their attention’, and are ‘tailored to the category criteria’.

Representing the Association on the judging panel will be Sally Thornley FTA’s Director of Standards, Audit and Accreditation - who said:

“FTA is once again delighted to be sponsoring the Motor Transport Operational Compliance Excellence Award. Having previously judged this category I recognise the important work and contribution the operations department makes to a freight and logistics company. In my role as a judge I will be looking for an operator who runs a highly compliant fleet with effective systems in place to manage their transport operation. They should be able to provide evidence of excellent management and monitoring systems, clearly communicated processes and responsibilities, with a strategy to ensure the competency of their drivers and other staff within the organisation.”

The annual MT Awards set an important benchmark for operators who are shortlisted or win demonstrating that they have reached the very highest standard.

The 2016 entry deadline is 5pm on Friday 18 March, and the finalists will be revealed on 9 May with the winners being announced at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, on Wednesday 6 July.
