Bulk shipper relocates into Grangemouth

Forth Ports today confirms a new five-year agreement with Meyer Timber, the UK’s market leading supplier of wood based panel products. The deal provides Meyer with significant on-quay storage facilities at the Port of Grangemouth and sees the company relocate its main Scottish distribution facility to a large new warehouse and office premises within the port. The combination of a landed stock warehouse with an initial capacity of 25,000ft2 (Meyer has an option to increase in 5,000ft2 increments) with significant bulk on-quay storage allows the company to import containerised goods direct. Meyer’s previous facility was situated approximately 400m from the port. Nik Scott-Gray, Business Development Manager for Forth Ports, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to offer Meyer Timber the opportunity to expand and strengthen their Scottish distribution operations, offering extensive quayside facilities at the Port of Grangemouth. This deal builds on the long relationship developed between Meyer and Forth Ports over many years at our Tilbury (London) operation. We pride ourselves on being able to offer bespoke, strategic solutions to both new and existing clients and our relationship with Meyer is an excellent example.”

Richard Lazenby, Meyer’s group trading director, described the expansion as a “massive” step forward for the group in Scotland: “The facility will strengthen customer distribution in the Scottish lowlands and this move essentially underpins the group’s promise of next day delivery for orders received by 5pm. In our previous position, if we wanted to move product out of the quay to our own warehouse we had to use a lorry to do that. There is now a large logistical benefit of being able to combine landed stock with on-quay stock.”
