Logistics UK welcomes plug-in grant extension for ordered vehicles

An ongoing shortage of semi-conductor chips and other components in the manufacturing supply chain, has led the government to extend from nine months to 12 months the period that plug-in vehicle grant orders have to reach ‘completed’ status, the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) confirmed earlier this month.

Previous orders made on the plug-in vehicle grant portal now have until next Wednesday (4 May 2022) to be fulfilled to ensure payment. For multi-stage build vehicles (MSBs), OZEV has undertaken to consider longer delivery timescales up to 18 months on a case-by-case basis, subject to suitable evidence for delays being provided.

Denise Beedell, Public Policy Manager, Logistics UK, said: “Supply chain disruption has made the procurement of plug-in electric vehicles problematic for many of our members, so we welcome OZEV’s extension of its plug-in grant for ordered vehicles, which gives fleet managers some much-needed breathing space. OZEV’s willingness to consider longer delivery times for multi-stage build vehicles is also very welcome. While we understand that the government will not reflect this temporary extension on its website, it has undertaken to keep the vehicle supply industry informed about the changes and Logistics UK will continue to keep its members abreast of developments.”
