Plan for delays during Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Logistics UK advises members
Logistics UK is telling its members to prepare for significant road closures to support events taking place in central London to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
There will also be road closures across the UK for local and community events to celebrate the landmark anniversary – which marks the first time a British Monarch has served on the throne for 70 years.
In London, Transport for London (TfL) will be coordinating information for the official events, but the details are yet to be finalised. One of the main events taking place in central London will be the Queen’s Birthday Parade on Thursday 2 June, also known as Trooping the Colour, involving over 1,400 parading soldiers beginning at Buckingham Palace, moving down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade. The following day (Friday 3 June) a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The weekend in central London will also be busy with the BBC staging and broadcasting the Platinum Party at the Palace, a live concert from Buckingham Palace, on Saturday 4 June. The following day (Sunday 5 June) will see performers, dancers and musicians parading along Whitehall and The Mall as part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
Natalie Chapman, Head of Policy – South, Logistics UK, said: “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee represents a major milestone for the Queen’s reign and will be a time of great national celebration. However, it will also lead to a significant number of road closures across the UK, many in residential areas for street parties and local community events.
“Whilst TfL will be publishing details of the official events taking place in central London, there is no central database for the local road closures which will be taking place in residential streets up and down the country. So, we urge members to communicate with both their customers and drivers, and if roads are expected to be closed retime deliveries wherever possible. Drivers should factor in additional time for deliveries over this period and be prepared to take longer routes than usual to avoid road closures.”
