Member briefing to reveal how to access government funding for skills

Following on from last year’s popular member briefing on skills, Logistics UK, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Department for Education (DfE) will be running another member briefing next week (Wednesday 2 March 2022) about potential routes available for operators to recruit and train for key logistics roles, particularly HGV drivers.

Members attending the briefing will have the opportunity to hear from Alex Farkas, Senior Account Manager, DWP and Toni Moore, Traineeships Joint Policy & Stakeholder Engagement at the Education and Skills Funding Agency, on the available schemes and support that are open to them, which in turn will help pivot jobseekers into secure employment in logistics and support the industry.

Mags Simpson, Head of Policy Engagement, Logistics UK, said: “This member briefing is an ideal opportunity for members to hear from senior officials from two key government departments on the latest support and schemes that can help them with their recruitment and training activity.

“Both departments recognise that the logistics sector is a vital part of the UK economy and value highly the way that the industry has worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep trade flowing. This briefing gives the government the opportunity to explain the important role it can play in supporting domestic recruitment into the sector. I urge all Logistics UK members looking to plan their recruitment and training for the coming year to book their place without delay.”
