Important safety advice for van members

This week a contractor delivering for Amazon lost his life when his van was hijacked while he was working. Logistics UK sends its sincerest condolences to the driver’s family for this tragic loss.

While the exact detail of this crime is still unknown, it serves as a timely reminder for van operators to maintain the highest possible safety standards while working to prevent theft.

In particular:

- Remove the ignition keys, lock the cab doors and the vehicle's load space whenever it is left unattended, even when you are going to pay for fuel or when making adelivery.

- Do not leave windows open when away from your vehicle.

- Where possible use prearranged secure parking areas for overnight stops.

- Never put yourself at risk in an attempt to protect your load or vehicle. Your personal safety must come first.

For more advice on how to keep safe on the road, consult the Logistics UK LCV Drivers' Handbook.
