Logistics UK’s new Logistics Finance Forum will help form logistics businesses’ strategies and “positively impact operations long-term"

Finances have become a bigger concern than ever as costs continue to escalate nationwide across the logistics industry.

With this in mind, Logistics UK has announced its brand-new one-day event, the ‘Logistics Finance Forum’, to help industry leaders deal with current financial pressures and plan sensible strategies for the future.

To be held at 116 Pall Mall in London from 09:00-16:00 on 12 September 2023, the event – sponsored by award-winning supply chain finance platform, Demica – will explore the importance of productivity, efficiency and cost management for streamlining logistics operations, and provide the insight and information needed to form business strategy, as well as the opportunity to network with industry counterparts.

“We are delighted to be hosting this brand-new event,” says Phil Roe, President of Logistics UK. “Like many other sectors of the economy, costs are a key concern among industry. This event aims to provide business leaders with the information they need to make the strategic decisions that will impact their operations long term.

“With an expert line-up consisting of speakers from HSBC, the Financial Times, Evri, Volvo Trucks and many more, this really does promise to be an insightful event filled with lively discussion.”

New Strategic Rail Freight Interchange in Northampton enters vital development phase

Railway engineers are about to enter an important phase in construction to connect a major new rail freight interchange to the West Coast main line in Northampton.

Next month, railway teams will connect the under-construction interchange to one of Europe’s busiest mixed-use passenger and freight railway lines, by installing new track, points and signalling systems.

The new railway connection, which will be used by freight company Maritime, will see thousands of tonnes of goods switch between rail and road beside Junction 15 of the M1 motorway every day.

MOTs for hydrogen-powered vehicles – new instructions released

DVSA has released new instructions for presenting hydrogen-powered vehicles for their MOT.  Although most hydrogen vehicles are buses, this new information will also apply to HGVs.

Logistics UK has been discussing the provisions needed to safely deal with hydrogen vehicles in workshops with its Engineering Forum members and DVSA, and the new process aligns with those discussions.

Members, and their maintenance providers, should also be adopting the same position with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicles as they can pose similar risks.

Instructions can be found here.
