Logistics UK chief invited to join new DfT cross-modal freight council

The Department for Transport has invited Logistics UK to join its new Ministerial Cross-Modal Freight Council.

Designed to provide a forum for industry-government engagement across all freight modes, the Council’s main objective is to ensure that the UK logistics sector retains its competitive edge in an increasingly global market, by continuing to offer a world-class service that supports the country’s growth.

David Wells, Chief Executive of Logistics UK, who attended the first meeting on 8 June, said, “I was delighted to accept the government’s invitation to join what promises to be a highly influential group, on behalf of our 18,000 members. The Council takes a long-term, strategic view of the logistics sector, by identifying priorities and agreeing solutions using an industry-government partnership model.

“I have no doubt that this highly consultative and collaborative approach will pay dividends in the months and years ahead, as the council looks to grapple with major issues and initiatives, including the sector’s resilience, its response to the pandemic and a range of other cross-modal matters.”
