Logistics UK welcomes relaxation of drivers’ hours
Logistics UK has welcomed the relaxation of the enforcement of EU drivers’ hours rules for drivers involved in the delivery of Operation London Bridge.
The temporary relaxation, announced last Friday (9 September 2022) by the Department for Transport (DfT), will apply during the period of National Mourning, which lasts until Tuesday 20 September 2022 (the day after HM the Queen’s funeral).
Kate Jennings, Policy Director, Logistics UK, said: “Following the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, we welcome this temporary relaxation to EU drivers’ hours rules, reflecting as it does the urgent need for substantial amounts of goods and numbers of personnel to be moved at short notice to support the main, official ceremonial events taking place across Great Britain, including Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral on 19 September 2022.”
Operators or drivers intending to use the relaxation must notify DfT by emailing a completed initial notification of relaxation form, before emailing a completed follow-up notification of relaxation form by 29 September 2022 at the very latest.
