Plan ahead for road closures in the capital, Logistics UK urges members

Logistics UK is urging any members planning to deliver into London in the coming week to plan ahead for potential road closures.

There have been extensive road closures in central London since Her Majesty the Queen passed on 8 September 2022. Logistics UK has received details of the planned road closures for the remaining period of mourning leading up to the Queen’s State Funeral on Monday 19 September 2022..

As part of its policing operation, the Metropolitan Police (Met) has closed roads that encompass Buckingham Palace, Green Park and St James’s Park to all vehicles, including pre-arranged deliveries and freight traffic.

This Friday and Saturday (16-17 September 2022), Her Majesty will lie in state in Westminster Hall and Logistics UK expects vehicular restrictions in the environs of Parliament Square, as well as restrictions on traffic in the St James’ and Green Parks area.

By Sunday (18 September 2022), it is likely that further vehicular road closures will begin in Victoria, Whitehall and the Mall in preparation for the State Funeral on Monday. Spontaneous restrictions of vehicular and some pedestrian traffic in and around the Park Lane, Mayfair and Kensington areas.

On the day of the State Funeral (Monday 19 September 2022), Logistics UK expects considerable vehicular road closures throughout central London together with more limited vehicular closures in west London.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Although we recognise these road closures may cause some inconvenience, they are necessary to ensure the safety of those members of the public visiting London and to allow the planned ceremonial events to take place.”

The Met is working closely with Westminster City Council and Transport for London to minimise any disruption to residents and businesses. To discover more about road closures in the capital, please visit this link.
