DVS requirement change - the countdown is on...

Members are advised to check their existing vehicle permits as soon as possible ahead of rule changes.

There are now less than two months to go before Direct Vision Standard (DVS) requirements change. From 28 October 2024, HGVs over 12 tonnes will need to hold at least a three-star rating or fit the Progressive Safe System to operate in Greater London.

Follow this link to find out the DVS star rating of HGVs, check existing permits for vehicles, and apply for a permit if required.

Operators may be issued with a penalty charge notice of up to £550 if an HGV over 12 tonnes is driven without a valid safety permit.

News In Brief

Silvertown and Blackwall Tunnel tolls will not be scrapped

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has advised motorists that they will be charged £4 to use either tunnel at peak times and £1.50 off peak and at weekends. There will be no charge between 10pm and 6am on any day of the week.

While an exact date has yet to be anno9unced, the charges will be imposed from Spring next year when the Silvertown tunnel opens. At present, the Blackwall tunnel, which is used by about 100,000 motorists a day, is free, and has been since it opened in 1897.

The Silvertown tunnel connects North Greenwich with the Royal Docks. It is claimed that journeys could be made up to 20 minutes quicker by halving pressure on the adjacent Blackwall tunnel.
