Generation Logistics campaign cuts through to the people and talent that matter – and the numbers prove it

The Generation Logistics awareness campaign was launched last August and some of the statistics it’s generated as it approaches the end of its first year have been nothing short of remarkable.

  • 650k+ visits to the Generation Logistics web Hub
  • 3 million+ engagements on social media
  • 150+ pieces of national editorial media coverage
  • Described by the DfT as “a down payment on the workforce of the future”

In its second year, Generation Logistics will build on these impressive results and is making it easier for companies of all sizes to get involved by enabling businesses with turnovers of less than £20m to join as Silver sponsors for just £2,000 per annum.

The new heavily discounted sponsorship package ensures companies, whatever their size, will be able to tap into the ever-expanding Generation Logistics network, promote entry-level schemes, amplify social media posts using the campaign’s channels and participate fully in Generation Logistics Week.

As Logistics UK’s President and Executive Sponsor of Generation Logistics, Phil Roe says: “For the industry to thrive and attract the next generation of talent, it’s vital that the whole sector comes together behind Generation Logistics.

“We are passionate about representing the whole sector which is why we have introduced a substantially discounted opportunity for smaller companies.

“Over the last year, the industry has delivered a high-profile, national awareness campaign – the first time this has happened – and we are definitely shifting perceptions.

“The next phase is going to be even better and I would urge companies of all sizes to come forward and support the campaign in its second year.”

Generation Logistics is highlighting the varied roles that exist in the sector and cutting through to the talent that can drive individual business and the industry as a whole forward.

If you want to be part of the movement and secure the talent of the future, become a sponsor now.

Logistics UK sits on a challenge panel for independent review of DVLA

Logistics UK's Policy Director, Kate Jennings, will represent members on a newly formed challenge panel that will assist the new independent review of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) services, announced yesterday 25 July. This review will:

- Consider the DVLA’s governance, accountability, efficacy and efficiency.

- Consider the extent to which DVLA is enabling wider government priorities and actively learning from wider government transformation agenda.

- Make recommendations to ministers to inform decisions on future delivery arrangements and efficiency savings.

The review will assess DVLA based on the four pillars set by the Cabinet Office of efficiency, efficacy, accountability and governance. Janette Beinart, non-executive director of the Cabinet Office and National Highways and previously Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer at Shell International, has been appointed to lead the review with support from Department for Transport officials.

DfT updates on winter 2023 airport slot alleviation

Following DfT’s consultation on winter 2023 slots alleviation from 22 May to 12 June, Transport Minister Baroness Vere has written to consultees to provide an update. The letter states that, if approved by Parliament, the following measures will be put in place:

- Retain the minimum usage ratio of 80:20, meaning airlines are required to use their slots at least 80% of the time to retain their historic rights. This utilisation rate was supported by most consultation responses, including Logistics UK’s, and should encourage efficient slot use.

- Retain the provisions for justified non-utilisation (JNUS) of slots to cover COVID-19 related restrictions. These will be unchanged from the summer 2023 season and will apply where COVID-19 measures are applied at either end of a route and have a severe impact on demand or viability of the route. This is something Logistics UK called for in its response to the consultation. There will be a three-week recovery period during which JNUS may still apply following the end of restrictions to help airlines and airports plan and respond flexibly to any changes.

- Allow airlines to hand back up to 5% of their slots at an airport before the start of the season and the coordinator will treat these slots as having been operated. The window when airlines can return slots to the coordinator will be 1-14 September. Pre-season hand-back is for winter 2023 only and will last until 30 March 2024.
