Building resilience into the supply chain: Logistics UK event to lead the conversation
Britain’s supply chain has been threatened with disruption like never before over the past decade, with Brexit, the pandemic, product shortages, border closures and the war in Ukraine slowing or stopping the passage of goods to their end customer.
To ensure that supply chain issues do not hamper the growth of UK plc in the future, Logistics UK is holding its annual one-day conference – Supply Chain Resilience – for industry leaders, to debate the issues affecting the resilience of the sector and identify ways to protect the movement of goods to their end customer.
To be held at the America Square Conference Centre, London on Thursday 23 March, the event will provide business representatives with the opportunity to learn and debate with engaging keynote speakers and high-level panel discussions throughout the day. The keynote presentation will be delivered by Alan McKinnon, Professor of Logistics at Kuhne Logistics University and Professor Emeritus at Heriot-Watt University (pictured above). The day’s programme will include presentations and debate from other leading industry experts and examine previous lessons learned, as well as identifying future issues which could affect the efficacy of the UK’s supply chain.
“Supply chain resilience is an issue which has risen to the top of many business leaders’ concerns, following a range of disruptions over the past few years,” explained Phil Roe, President of Logistics UK, who will chair the day’s proceedings. “To ensure the continuity of operations, it is vital that logistics leaders consider all potential events that threaten their operations, as well as develop solutions to challenge disruption.
“There is much that can be done to ensure goods keep flowing, from new technologies and creating an ethical, environmentally friendly supply chain to ensuring the availability of the right, highly skilled workforce across all modes. Our line-up of thought leaders in resilience, including representatives from DfT, Liverpool Freeport, TechUK and Wincanton, will challenge thinking and provide solutions to ensure ongoing connectivity for businesses across our sector – it is a must-attend event for all those who are serious about planning for every eventuality.”
Tickets for Logistics UK’s Supply Chain Resilience conference are now available, priced at £100 + VAT for members and £120 + VAT for non members. Places at the conference are strictly limited – to register your interest, please visit the link below.

DRIVER CPC REVIEW AND CONSULTATION LAUNCHED
The Department for Transport launched a consultation today (2 March 2023) on the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC). Logistics UK has requested further meetings with DfT to discuss the finer points of the Review, owing to its reservations about the new periodic test element and implications for road safety. The government’s own Review states that this could result in a significant drop in training being performed, which could undermine the original goal of the DCPC regime.
Members are strongly urged to respond individually to the consultation.
