Logistics UK launches training course for van drivers

Logistics UK announced the launch of a brand-new eLearning course, Van Driver Safety Training, yesterday (30 June 2021), with the aim of ensuring the four million vans currently on the UK’s roads are being driven safely, efficiently and in compliance with government legislation.

The course – launched officially at the Innovation and Technology in Transport Hub - ITT Hub at Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre – is available to Logistics UK members and non-members alike. The course provides van drivers with an overview of their responsibilities in ensuring vehicle roadworthiness and explains how to identify and report possible vehicle defects and combines video instruction with desk-based elearning. Modules within the course also cover the importance of appreciating the powers of enforcement authorities, and advice on how to increase road safety.

“All van drivers are legally responsible for the road-worthiness of the vehicle they operate,” said David Jordan, Deputy Operations Director of Services at Logistics UK, “Along with their employer, they would be liable for prosecution if found to be operating a defective van. It is vital that anyone driving a van – whether using it to carry tools, equipment and materials, deliver goods, or to transport others – is aware of this responsibility and takes every possible step to ensure they are operating their vehicle safely and legally. Logistics UK’s brand-new virtual eLearning course, Van Driver Safety Training provides van drivers with the toolkit they need to ensure their vehicle is roadworthy before setting out on a journey and throughout their working days.”

The course is available to purchase for £9.95 per use for Van Excellence Accredited Operators, £12.95 per use for members of Logistics UK and £17.95 per use for non-members.
