A month in the media – September 2023

The logistics industry has maintained its presence in the news over the past month thanks to the efforts of Logistics UK’s press office, with key topics generating coverage of note including decarbonisation, border issues and driver facilities.

By maintaining and building strong relationships with the media, and providing timely responses to issues and announcements, such as delays to decarbonisation deadlines, the Logistics UK press office team has ensured that the views of members are heard on these – and other – issues.

Between 30 August and 26 September, 145 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for around nine million people to see Logistics UK’s opinions.

Coverage at a glance: the numbers

National online and printed press – 3

Broadcasts – 1

Regional newspapers (printed) - 5

Online (transport, regional and trade) – 99

Magazines (printed transport and trade magazines) – 25

FTA Ireland coverage – 12

Decarbonisation deadlines

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement pushing back decarbonisation deadlines, Logistics UK’s comments were published on FT.com and across the trade media, including such publications as The Grocer, Motor Transport, GreenFleet and What Van?

Border issues

Logistics UK’s comments on the cost of post-Brexit border checks on fresh food and produce were published in the print and online editions of the Financial Times, and an in-depth interview was undertaken on UTV's 'View from Stormont' programme regarding the Windsor Framework.

Driver facilities funding

Following the announcement of £8 million in government funding for roadside facilities, Logistics UK’s comments were covered by around 20 regional and trade publications.

The month ahead

Over the next month, the Logistics UK media team will be focusing on policy-related issues such as decarbonisation and skills, and reacting to breaking news stories as they unfold. The team will also continue to work on promoting Logistics UK’s 2023 events programme, with particular focus on the autumn Transport Manager conference series, which is already under way, and the Logistics Awards which take place in December.

Have you got a story?  If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to highlight some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you.  We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise.  And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact Freya, Lauren or Jackie in the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
