Policy team wins: April 2021

Wins recently achieved by the Logistics UK policy team

Extension of SPS grace period

Currently, some SPS goods classed as Prohibited & Restricted (chilled meats) from GB to NI have to adhere to full Export Health Certificate procedures. This was due to be extended to all SPS goods from 1 April 2021, including all food products, and would have posed an unsustainable burden on the food retail and logistics sectors. Following our engagement, the UK Government made a unilateral decision to extend this until 1 October, to allow a streamlined process and set of rules to be agreed within the governance processes of the NI Protocol.

Parking Code Enforcement Framework

Several of Logistics UK's suggestions for the Parking Code Enforcement Framework have been agreed, including the implementation of a single appeals service, Accredited Trade Association auditing, restrictions to data allowed from DVLA and the introduction of a higher standard of signage.

Rail Strategy recommendations

Logistics UK's recommendations on the need for High Speed 2 (HS2) to release additional capacity; taking advantage of the opportunities raised in the Planning White Paper, and increasing prospects for international rail freight opportunities have been included in the industry-wide Freight Strategy for rail freight, which will be fed into wider Whole Industry Strategic Plan for rail.

Scottish Transport Project Review 2

Logistics UK's participation on the Freight Strategy Programme Board has helped ensure that freight has a much more important role to play within the second Scottish Transport Project Review. There are now numerous freight projects recommended across all modes of transport, as well as investment plans for new and existing infrastructure.
