Optimising existing power to support an electric fleet
Phil Hack, Head of Markets, UK Power Networks Services
One of the biggest concerns about introducing electric vehicles is providing the infrastructure to keep them charged and running. For many businesses the only option appears to be the installation of new substations, which is expensive and disruptive, or investment in self-generating schemes such as solar or wind-powered turbines on site.
However as UKPN will show, it is possible by careful scheduling and management of fleet assets to work within the existing capacity and electricity allowances of most sites. It calls for sophisticated software and capacity planning, but could remove the last hurdle to being able to run a battery powered fleet without installing additional infrastructure.
