Maritime Transport gets to work with deploying eHGV fleet

Maritime Transport has begun nationwide deployment of its eHGV fleet as part of its long-term strategy to decarbonise road freight and build a clean supply chain across the country.

Nineteen electric HGVs have entered into service at its sites based in Wakefield and Birmingham, with a total of 56 vehicles being introduced across 13 transport depots and rail-connected terminals in 2025.

The fleet will be deployed in phases and is expected to reach ranges between 300km and 500km per charge depending on duty cycle, which makes it well-suited to a wide range of regional operations.

To address the challenge of energy demand, Maritime is developing a charging network for eHGVs expected to deliver more than 22MW of installed power once complete, which is enough to charge 100 HGVs simultaneously.

The network will be accessible to third party operators, to ease the challenge of adopting zero-emission vehicles.

The roll out is part of the government’s ZEHID programme, of which Maritime is part of three projects; ZENFreight, Electric Freightway and eFREIGHT 2030, demonstrating how zero-emission trucks with the right charging infrastructure can effectively operate within logistics.
