And I would drive 435 miles… new Volvo electric truck ready for long haul

A new vehicle released by Volvo, the FH Aero Electric, features extended range with the capability to drive up to 700km (434 miles) on a single charge.

It wasn’t the only truck to be announced by the manufacturer as it has also launched the next-generation heavy-duty Volvo FH, FM and FMX electric trucks with major improvements in flexibility, productivity and driving comfort. These offer ranges up to 470km.

The Volvo FH Aero Electric can drive up to 700km on a single charge thanks to a new driveline technology, the e-axle, which creates more space for battery capacity onboard. The truck is adapted to the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and with its eight batteries, can be charged from 20% to 80% in 50 minutes.

The FH, FM and FMX electric trucks meanwhile can be charged from 20% to 80% in around 65 minutes.

All new trucks are equipped with a gearbox optimised for electric transmission, paired with dual motors to deliver smoother and more controlled performance. The new powershift gearboxes – eight speed on the Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric and six speed on the FH Aero Electric – have extended range and gear shifting.

“This means we can fully match the business needs of our customers. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones.”

Logistics UK’s Head of Decarbonisation, Lamech Solomon said: “Volvo’s latest generation of electric trucks marks a significant step forward for the decarbonisation of UK road freight.
