What’s going on across the pond?

Italy:

IKEA Group will be participating in its first electrified heavy road transport project, developed together with logistics partner LC2 Trasporti and Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The aim of the partnership is to contribute towards a more sustainable and efficient logistics system.

The project, which will begin in October, will undertake a gradual implementation phase. From the two Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks in operation, the fleet will expand to more than 10 by Q3 2026. These trucks will be used for daily container transport services to and from the ports of Genoa and La Spezia.

Spain:

Kempower and Repsol have partnered to roll out electric vehicle charging to a range of Repsol service stations across Spain, offering public charging alongside existing fuel pumps for passenger EVs and electric trucks. The collaboration will be facilitated by MIDES, responsible for the installation and maintenance of the charging network.

A site in Venturada, Madrid, is already equipped with four 400kW Kempower Satellite chargers while a second site in Lopiadana, Basque Country is located along the A1 highway, a popular trucking route. The Lopidana location has been used to test the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks, which demonstrated a range of over 500km on a single charge.

China:

Haropa Port, Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Group, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, China Waterborne Transport Research Institute, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL) have all signed a strategic agreement creating the first green shipping corridor between France and China.

China accounts for 30% of Haropa Port’s container traffic and Ningbo Zhousahn Port represents 22% of this volume. Due to the high level of trade between the two ports, the green corridor is expected to have a significant impact on reducing emissions in the maritime sector.

Latin America:

Kuehne+Nagel, LATAM Cargo and The Elite Flower have carried out a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) operation in Latin America, implementing SAF in the transportation of flowers.

The operation reduced 300 tonnes of CO2e linked to the transportation of 495 tonnes of flowers (approximately 10 million stems) from Bogota to Miami for Valentine’s Day, one of the most important dates in the calendar for the floriculture industry.
