Drone zone – logistics firms partner on remote deliveries

Deploying drones for remote logistics enables Welch Group and Iona to streamline deliveries and address a persistent challenge – the high cost and inefficiency of low-volume, long-distance deliveries.

Through the addition of an aerial layer to existing logistics networks, both companies aim to reduce operational overheads, improve delivery speed and increase reliability for critical shipments such as medical restocks or essential spare parts.

Replacing these trips with lightweight, electrically powered aerial deliveries helps cut emissions, lower fuel consumption, and minimise road congestion, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

As part of a hybrid logistics model, drone integration enables operators to optimise route planning and vehicle utilisation, supporting a more sustainable, lower-carbon supply chain while maintaining high service levels for remote communities.
