Decarbonisation Solutions Forum 2026

The logistics industry came together on Wednesday 1 April for Logistics UK’s Decarbonisation Solutions Forum, to address the pressing question of how to make the decarbonisation transition accessible and cost effective without impacting the efficiency of the sector.

An opening speech from Logistics UK’s Senior Policy Manager Stephanie Haszczyn outlined Logistics UK’s main asks from the government in enabling the decarbonisation transition, which included developing a co-owned industry and government decarbonisation roadmap as well as a technology-neutral approach to decarbonising HGVs that included both electrification and low carbon fuels (LCF) in its scope.

This was followed by a fireside chat between Stephanie Haszczyn and Jamie Sands, Head of Solutions at Welch Group where he discussed the challenges facing small to medium operators and the importance of framing the conversation by those who have started the journey and those who haven’t.

His piece of advice to attendees before embarking on this journey was to make sure to speak to your DNO (Distribution Network Operator) and have the conversation about what might be needed in future. Following this discussion, attendees were split into six tracks to learn more about LCF, electrification and digital twin technology from the players who are carrying this out right now.

This included Argent Fuels, ViGo Bioenergy, VEV, Intangles, the AA and CX Energy.

Stephanie Haszczyn said: “It was a fantastic event and opportunity to bring thought leaders together in one room to stimulate discussions about what needs to be done to decarbonise the logistics sector.

“At Logistics UK, we’re calling on the government to recognise that electrification isn’t the only lever to achieve decarbonisation, and while electrification grows, it will depend on alternatives to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint. “Low carbon fuels present a viable, short-term alternative that can and are being deployed now, allowing operators to reduce their emissions and deliver measurable impact.”
