Toyota Mobility Foundation and the City of Detroit have announced three winners of its Sustainable Cities Challenge, marking the end of a three-year competition designed to identify and scale sustainable urban mobility solutions.

Civilized Cycles, ElectricFish Energy and Neology will share $1.5 million to scale their solutions across the city, bringing a mixture of expertise in electric cargo vehicles, fast-charging EV solutions and power systems that produce hydrogen and electricity independently.

South Korea:  

Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) completed its first ammonia bunkering operation on 23 April at Pier 2 where Lotte Fine Chemical supplied 600 tonnes of clean ammonia to a gas tanker built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The achievement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in January 2024 by UPA to promote the ammonia bunkering industry. It has since worked with key stakeholders across the value chain including Korean Register, Lotte Fine Chemical, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HMM. It demonstrates how ammonia bunkering for a commercial vessel via port-to-ship operations is possible, paving the way for a cleaner maritime sector.

Singapore: 

UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have partnered to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable and resilient maritime transport.

Under the agreement, both organisations will promote cleaner fuels and digital technologies across ports and shipping networks, focusing on solutions that can be adapted to different contexts alongside knowledge sharing in sustainable finance, digital innovation and workforce development.
