David Wells
Chief Executive
David is Chief Executive of Logistics UK, one of the biggest business groups in the UK, and the only organisation which represents all of logistics. With more than 20,000 members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers, the members of Logistics UK operate more than half of the UK fleet of HGVs, and consign over 90% of freight moved by rail, and 70% of air and sea freight.
David joined Logistics UK in April 2009 as Finance and IT Director, subsequently taking on additional responsibility for the Vehicle Inspection Service and Training and Tachograph Analysis Service.
David became Chief Executive in early 2015 and since then has seen membership grow by 10%. Having completed an engineering degree in Liverpool, David studied for membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, qualifying in November 1993 whilst working in industry. His career has centred around engineering and service businesses and has both European and North American finance and operations experience.
David was awarded the OBE in last years' honours list for his services to Transport and Logistics.
Jerry Kane
Commercial Director
Jerry joined the FTA in 2018 with over 25 years commercial experience in the parcels, logistics services and logistics software markets.
During this time Jerry has been the Sales Director of some of the industries leading operators including DHL, Yodel and Eddie Stobart.
In addition to this he has run his own logistics consultancy specialising in business development, product development, sales and marketing.
Nigel Smart
Director of IT & Development
Nigel joined FTA in May 2000 as Head of IT, with responsibility for developing the organisations IT and business systems strategy. Nigel has been pivotal in growing the organisations software development capability, and delivering industry leading solutions such as FTA’s Vision platform. Nigel became part of the Exec team in early 2015.
Nigel is degree qualified with a BSc. (hons) Engineering Degree from The City University in London, and has a long history in the field of Electronic Engineering and Information Technology.
Kevin Green
Director of Policy and Communications
Kevin has been an Executive Director with Logistics UK for several years and has been pivotal in modernising and developing our strategy, alongside formulating and improving the effectiveness of our messaging, policy themes, industry asks and campaigns.
Kevin has a strong blue-chip corporate background, with a significant focus on Transport and Logistics, and ground-breaking public/private partnerships.
Chris Lipscomb
Director of Operations
Chris joined the FTA in December 2018 with over 25 years of operational leadership experience gained across manufacturing, supply chain and transport management.
During this time Chris has worked for a number of household name multinational food manufacturers , PepsiCo and Mars, as well as a number of family owned and run SME’s in the food and chemical supply industry.
Chris is a graduate of Heriot- Watt University, Edinburgh, where he studied Microbiology.
Carmel Mulvey
Director of Finance
Carmel joined Logistics UK as Finance Director in June 2023.
She has over 25 years of senior finance experience across a broad range of sectors. Most recently she has worked as Finance Director at a privately owned global manufacturing business in Kent and prior to that she worked as UK Finance Director for Givaudan UK Ltd a Swiss based global manufacturer of Fragrances and Flavours.
Carmel has a BSc Hons degree is Business and Finance from Trinty Collage, Dublin, Ireland and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA,CGMA).
Tim Rolfe
Director of Human Resources
Tim Rolfe is a Human Resources professional with over 25 years of experience in senior HR roles. After working in HR consulting, latterly as a Director in EY’s Human Capital practice, Tim held senior HR roles in RSA plc and Prudential plc, most recently as the Group Human Resources Director for Prudential plc. He has run his own independent HR consulting business since 2020, providing HR advisory services to financial services sector companies. He has sat on a number of subsidiary company Remuneration and Audit Committees as well as acting as a charity Trustee. Tim is a Senior External Assessor at the College of Policing, responsible for assessing candidates for senior roles within the police service. He is also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of England Netball, the national governing body for the sport.
Tim has a degree in Law and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
